INDY

Picture

Indy is our male Standard Poodle.  He actually belongs to our six-year-old son (and our son is his favorite person).  He is a big, fun goof, who is always trying to come up with ways to make us laugh.  It's true what they say about Poodles being incredibly intelligent, and he can be very inventive.
For instance, when we have summer puppies, and Holly is teaching the puppies not to be afraid of the water, she guides them gently into teh water.  Meanwhile, Indy waits unti lthey are in the water, then leaps into the water and splashes them mercilessly.  He's such a dad!  :o)
Indy has passed his CGC evaluation, and officially began his career as a therapy dog in November 2011.  He began working with VNS of Kokomo, as a hopsice therapy dog.  VNS went out of business, so Indy has been out of a job for a while.  However, he is now going to be a foundational dog in the beginning of a new pet therapy program at Guardian Angel Hospice, as soon as we can find the time to finish the training course!  They seem like a great company, and we are very excited about this new adventure!
Indy considers himself quite the watchdog, which is a job he takes very seriously.  People don't generally think of a Standard Poodle as being a protection dog, but they can be quite brave, and are excellent at assessing situations.   Indy takes a while to warm up to men in our home, which is not something that we have discouraged.  He needs to be quite sure that someone is an invited guest in our home before he warms up to them, but once he has, he'll seems to think that they're the long lost friend he's been searching for all of his life!
Indy has a thick, luxurious, curly blue coat, which is non-shedding (a trait that I, as a homemaker, can very much appreciate!).
Indy sires puppies with great temperaments much like his own.  His puppies tend to be great watchdogs, and to be excellent with children.  Several of them are actively working in the therapy field, while others are in trainings.  We're very proud of Indy, and we think very highly of him, and his puppies!

Yes, we did have him groomed with Bob Marley-esque dreadlocks.
